Traffic relief for the urban areas of Solin and Split

As part of the Trogir-Omiš expressway in Croatia, the Gladnjici Tunnel connects the Mravince and TTTS interchanges and forms a key section of the eastern bypass of Solin and Split. The tunnel improves traffic circulation before vehicles enter the urban areas. It also strengthens arteries to the A1 highway through the state road D1 (Solin-Klis section).

Planned as a twin-tube tunnel, the structure consists of a 388-metre-long left tube and a 340-metre-long right tube. A free profile height of 4,5 metres and a height of 6,85 metres from the finished roadways level to the crown of the arch provide the required traffic clearance.

Excavation is being executed using the New Austrian Tunnelling Method (NATM), primarily in rock categories IV and V. Challenging ground conditions require comprehensive support measures, such as reinforcement mats, steel lattice arches, rock bolts and shotcrete. After completion of the tunnel excavation, work will cover sealing layer, drainage and sewage systems, reinforced concrete tunnel lining, roadway structure and the installation of the tunnel equipment and signalling, resulting in an operational transport asset.
