Securing reliable water supply for agricultural production
The Thiba Dam project was developed to secure a reliable year-round water supply for Kenya’s agricultural sector. Located approximately 130 kilometres north-east of Nairobi, the dam measures 40 metres in height and 1 kilometre in length. The reservoir created by the dam enables farmers in the surrounding agricultural area to achieve a second harvest each year.
The contract, valued at approximately € 72 million, also included connections to the existing road network as well as the construction of water abstraction and flood discharge facilities. Construction commenced in March 2018 and was scheduled for completion within approximately 45 months.

- Construction of a 40 m high and 1km long dam
- Creation of a reservoir to support year-round irrigation
- Construction of water abstraction facilities
- Construction of flood discharge infrastructure
- Connection of the project site to the existing road network
- Associated civil engineering and infrastructure works
