Stockholm Bypass, Akalla

Sweden

As part of the new, efficient highway bypass around the west of Stockholm, the Akalla tunnel on the north-western outskirts of Stockholm was excavated by drilling and blasting.
The two parallel tubes, each with a maximum cross-section of around 280 m2, run for a length of 1,250 m with a cover of less than 30 m below ground level.
During the tunnelling work in the typically stable granite of Scandinavia, the special requirement for rock sealing by means of grouting measures coincides with the excavation work.
